As I wrote earlier today, Gary J. Arzt was an uncensored, opinionated curmudgeon. You either loved him or not. There was no in-between. Gary so loved the cigar industry that he took it upon himself to make sure people like me loved the business as much as he did. Earning his respect was a profound gift.

I'm off to Shelly's Back Room to raise a glass and light a cigar in his memory. Feel free to do the same where ever you may be.

Brother Gary was as genuine as they come. I had to distinct pleasure to enjoy a cigar with Gary at the last RTDA trade show in New Orleans in 2009. Later keeping in touch through facebook. Rest in peace my brother. God bless your family.

Hotels no, but Shelly's Back Room and Ozio in DC are nice options. Also, the Morton's Steakhouse on Connecticut Avenue NW has a patio where they allow smoking.

Same thing happened to my local B&M in Westwood, CA. The management company accidentely moved UCLA Heart Division above a smoking shop. The lease stated cigars and gift shop but no where did it mention smoking inside was allowed. Tough loss.
